The Prayers of the Faithful represent a vision of the Christian in the world that should not be forgotten by the Mass-goer. We don’t leave behind our material and historical realities when we got to Mass. We don’t got to Mass to escape from the sorrows of the word, as if Church is a safe haven from politics, from illness, and from suffering. Nor for that matter should the Church simply become a part of the world. Instead, through the intercessions that we offer, we really bring the material world before God the Father, asking it to be transformed in the Mass that we celebrate. In these intercessions we want the Church, the world, the entirety of our lives to become what it should be in the kingdom of God.
